Women have long arms and a tight embrace. The International Alliance for Women, or TIAW, is WBO for the planet: a source of training, support, education, relationship, with women worldwide. Thanks to WBO of North Florida's membership in TIAW, we WBO members are all automatic members of TIAW.
Last November, flush from the Global Partnership Forum in Toronto, I talked about the rush associated with hearing and sharing women's stories of their professional lives. Also uplifting were the efforts to extend a hand to women in the third world through establishment of micro-banks. Our own WBO has funded one. Attendees heard about women who with a tiny loan of $500, could start a small business, create jobs and lift their whole village with them. The joy of seeing what an impact we can have touches deep in the soul. Other sessions briefed us on internet branding of ourselves, how to get more women on corporate boards, steps for career success and bolstering our daughters and their self esteem by working with them and sensitizing society to the injurious effects of common narrow concepts of beauty and success.
TIAW can shape us between these major conferences too. First, TIAW is planning more events on a smaller scale in different countries, to help shrink the mammoth task of putting together conferences for members and to allow them to happen more frequently.
Kim Knapp reports that on the President's call last week, the group discussed a new initiative to conduct tele-seminars on a variety of topics open to women worldwide. The first of these will be free-we will be sure to provide more detail when available! Others will be open for a small fee to support the organization and will feature accomplished authorities in their fields offering guidance on Technology and Business, Financing, International business, and so on.
